Double Eagle

1. Double Eagle Systems ROV Upgrade: On 26 September 2006, Saab Underwater Systems announced that they had received a US$13.8M contract to upgrade all of the Royal Danish Navy’s (RDN) Double Eagle remote operated vehicles (ROV). The Double Eagle is utilized by the RDN for mine hunting as well as other operations. The contract includes upgrades of the electronic system and a new generation sensor system. The upgrade will convert the Double Eagle systems so that they can be operated as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV). The upgrades will begin in 2007 and should be completed by the end of 2008.

Scanter 2001

2. Kystradar Coastal Radar (Kyra) System: In February 2001, the Danish Naval Material Command (SMK) placed a US$22M order for the delivery of six Scanter 4000 as well as 14 Scanter 2001 coastal surveillance radar systems. This was followed by a December 2005 order for an additional eight Scanter 4000 and 17 Scanter 2001 radar systems.

The initial delivery and operation of these systems was delayed due to protests by communities where the radars were to be installed. However, this issue was resolved with the passing of a special legislation by the Parliament at the end of 2005. Delivery of the Terma A/S radars began in September 2006, and will likely continue through 2008.
