Challenger 604
The Royal Danish Navy (RDN) currently does not own
any air assets. Maritime patrol duties are performed by the Royal
Danish Air Force and its three Challenger 604 fixed wing aircraft.
Eight Augusta Westland Lynx helicopters are also owned by the Air
Force although operated by the Navy from land bases as well as large
surface combatants. The Navy also operates eight Sikorsky S-61A-1 Sea
King helicopters which will be replaced by the Search and Rescue (SAR)
version of the EH-101 helicopters being procured by the Danish Air
Force beginning in 2007. The EH-101 helicopters will be owned and
operated by the Air Force from land bases as well as the RDN’s new
Flexible Support Ships (Large Standard Ship) and Large Patrol Vessels
(Frigate).

EH-101 Helicopter
1. EH Industries EH-101 Helicopter: In December
2001, the Royal Danish Air Force Materiel Command signed a US$350M
contract with EH Industries for fourteen EH-101 helicopters. The first
five helicopters were delivered to Denmark in 2005, with the final
nine units, including four search and rescue (SAR) variants, scheduled
to be delivered by the end of 2007. The helicopters will be operated
by the Danish Air Force and will operate from land bases as well as
the new Flexible Support Ship and Large Patrol Vessel (Frigate). The
EH-101’s primary missions include transport and search and rescue
(SAR).
