Decommissionings

1. Tumleren Class Submarine: As part of Defense Agreement 2000 - 2004, the Royal Danish Navy (RDN) placed two units of the Tumleren class in reserve in 2003. In December 2004, the Danish Parliament approved Defense Agreement 2005 – 2009, which calls for the decommissioning of the entire submarine force by mid-2005. All three Tumerlen class submarines, Tumerlen, Saelen, and Springeren were decommissioned by June 2005.

2. Nacken Class Submarine: As part of Defense Agreement 2005 – 2009, the single Nacken class submarine Kronborg (procured from Sweden in 2001) was decommissioned by June 2005.

3. Niels Juel Class Corvette: The RDN will decommission the Niels Juel class corvettes Niels Juel, Olfert Fischer and Peter Tordenskiold beginning in 2011 following the commissioning of the first Large Patrol Ship (Frigate). The second and third units will probably decommission in 2012 and 2013 corresponding to the commissioning of the second and third units of the Large Patrol Ship program.

4. Flyvefisken Class Multi-Role Vessels (MRVs): As part of Defense Agreement 2005 – 2009, the RDN was scheduled to decommission four units of the Flyvefisken class by the end of 2007. Three of the units Svaerdfisken, Flyvefisken and Hajen were decommissioned as of the end of 2004. The fourth unit, Lommen, is currently being utilized at a test platform for the Terma C-Flex combat system and will be decommissioned in 2007.

5. Barsoe Class Patrol Craft: The nine units of the Barsoe class, Barso, Drejo, Romso, Samso, Thuro, Vejro, Faro, Laeso and Romo will be decommissioned by 2008. These units will be replaced by the six units of the Standard Craft Mk II patrol boat program, which began in late 2004. The six units of the Standard Craft will be commissioned between 2007 and 2008.
