Decommissionings

1. Oslo Class Frigates: The Oslo class frigate Stavanger was decommissioned in 1999 and Bergen in 2005, leaving two units of the class, Trondheim, and Narvik in commission. The two remaining frigates will decommission as the Fridtjof Nansen class frigates continue to enter service through 2010. Five Oslo class frigates were built by Marinens Hovedverft (the RNoN Naval Dockyard in Horten, Norway) and commissioned into the RNoN between 1963-1967. The lead unit of the class, Oslo, sank in January 1994 after an engine failure caused the ship to run aground in heavy weather.

Hauk Class FAC

2. Hauk Class Fast Attack Craft (FAC): In accordance with The Further Modernization of the Norwegian Armed Forces 2005-2008, the fourteen units of the Hauk class will be phased out as the new Skjold class FACs enter service. All fourteen units will be decommissioned by 2009.

3. Valkyrien Class Supply and Rescue Vessel (AKS/ATA): In accordance with The Further Modernization of the Norwegian Armed Forces 2005-2008, the single Valkyrien class AKS/ATA will decommission around 2009 when the last of the Hauk class FAC are removed from service.
