Julie
Stiehl, of Springfield, Oregon, joined AMI International in March, 2009 as a
Naval Analyst.
Graduating from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN in 2003, she received a B.A. in Economics and Asian Studies, with distinction in Asian Studies and a concentration in Chinese Studies. She received the AsiaNetwork-Freeman grant to study the transition of China's centralized banking system into a market-oriented banking system. This research was carried out in Shanghai and Beijing, China.
At the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), Beijing, China, Julie studied the Mandarin Chinese language, passing the Chinese Language Proficiency Exam (HSK) with a level 6. Julie maintains her fluency in Mandarin Chinese with continued study.
While in China, she worked at Nuctech, a major high-tech company originating from Tsinghua University, and CN-KnowHow, a leader in the field of intellectual property rights. Julie acted as a foreign expert on American culture and English language training. Additional responsibilities were to improve marketing and communication between these Chinese companies and foreign clients.
While serving in the U.S. Army, and working as an Intelligence Analyst, Julie used her background in Asian Studies to enhance her knowledge of Korean and Japanese cultures and communication. In the U.S. Army, she gained expertise in land-based weapon systems, amphibious vehicles, as well as strategic countermeasures.
